Euro Pallets

A Euro-pallet is four way entry wooden pallets that is manufactured to the European standard size of 800 x 1200 mm. Most within continental Europe like to use the official Euro-pallet (specification no: UIC435-2), because this is a strong design that is fully compatible and interchangeable with other Euro-pallets of the identical design that circulate in Europe within what is known as the European Pallet Pool (EPP). This official Euro-pallet design can be identified by its specific branded markings and companies who use this pallet can gain free pallets in exchange when delivering to clients or sometimes apply a charge for the pallets if exchange proves impractical.

It is thought that there are over 450 million 800 x 1200 mm official UIC 435-2 Euro-pallets in existence – making it the world’s most popular design.

The production of the design is strictly managed in order to ensure that quality levels are consistently high, and within the UK the European Pallet Association (EPAL) certifies approved manufacturers, and Shaw Pallet have been associated with EPAL since 1989.

All new EPAL pallets are heat treated (ISPM15 compliant) and moisture controlled (kiln dried) – although they are not dried to a level which guarantees that bacterial growth (mould) will not occur.

EPAL recommend and provide licenses for a number of different pallets styles, the most common of which are shown below – but of course the 800 x 1200 mm (EPAL1) pallet is by far and away the most popular.
